Not too long ago Hubby and I came up with an idea to start taking our extra change, and putting it in our piggy bank. Then we would just save it to use when we went to Disney. We called it our “Mad Disney Money”, and we could spend it anyway we wanted when we were there. Most of the time we spent it on things our little one wanted, and not us. Seeing us do this for the past few years she asked me if she can get her own bank to do the same thing. Unlike us she uses her money on any toys, and souvenirs for herself, and her friends back home. Everytime we went to the bank to cash our coins in I found that she would get upset that we saved much more money then her. We never under stood why because most of the money went to her any way.
I will say this year that when it came time to cash our money in we were very surprised to see she saved more then us. This really showed us how tight money has been this past year. When a ten year old can save more money than us, then you know that something has hit the fan. I don’t know if it was her kind heart, or smart mouth that she gets from her daddy when she told me that it’s ok, and she’ll lend me the money if I don’t have enough for what I want. Even if I have to pay her back I’m just happy that at a young age she is learning how important money is, and how to save for what she wants. Do you remember how old you were when you started saving money for something you wanted?
