I have been working with hubby to save money that he would have to pay out to workers, and also so that I can earn enough to get some new counters, and some other things. When I was looking in a magazine and I saw a counter top that was done with glass mosaic tile. I asked hubby about maybe doing something like this instead of buying all new counter tops. That’s when he asked me if I knew how much that would cost. Yeah… like I know the price of everything. All I know is that it looked nice. I admit that it didn’t say how much or even how easy it would be to do. I don’t understand why he would ask me how much or how easy it is. It’s not like I do this for a living.

Last year when I got the little one new curtain’s for her room she wanted some more grown up ones. So this year I let her pick them out. She picked out a very nice set of pink ones, but because they were so shear we had to get her blinds to keep the sun out. I went to the store by me to get cheap blinds for her room, and I saw some nice faux wood blinds, but after what I had just spent on curtains decided that they were too much for me. I ended up just getting the cheap ones. Now a year later she broke them, and hubby says that it’s because I tried to save a few dollars, and didn’t just go ahead, and buy good ones. I know that realistically our little one had a fit, and didn’t mean to break them. So now I went back to get better ones, and got a surprise. The price was more this time around. It drives me nuts when this happens so I picked up another cheap set, and told her that she pays for them the next time she breaks them. Who knows maybe now they’ll last a little longer.

We remodeled our house a bit last month. We did some small things, and the biggest thing we did was paint. When I painted all my doors in the house I took all the door knobs off instead of trying to paint around the door locks, and knobs. At first I thought this was a better way of working, and that it would be no big deal to put them back on. I mean how hard could it be to put two screws back in to the door knobs. Well what I failed to realize was that if you don’t line everything up just right that they don’t work correct. I didn’t want to tell hubby what I did because he told me not to take the locks off because I won’t know how to put them back on. I wish I did listen to him because it would have made my life a little easier. I tried to put them back on correct for one hour before I said forget this, and waited for hubby to get home. Hubby said that it would have been a little easier if I didn’t put all the parts for 4 different locks in one spot. Maybe I need to listen to him more often. He told me I should have just taped them off, or just cut in around them. I didn’t understand the cut in part, but he said that he knows how to do it because he does it everyday at his part time job.

When I let hubby set up our basement as a room where he could hang out with his friends I thought he would make the one part that he put a 42 inch LCD TV, and a couch into a game room for him, and our little one to use. Instead I found out that when anyone I know wants to come over, and watch a movie with me that we get sent downstairs to that room. This is also the case if I want to exercise. If I knew this was going to be the case I would have had him put in some home theater seating to make it more comfortable for me. What I get stuck with is a beat up old couch. Why can’t I watch my movies in style?

This past weekend our kitchen faucet just started to leak for no reason as far as I know. So in needing a new one hubby, and I went to the local hardware store to find a cheap one to replace it for now. By the time we made it over to the faucets I was ready to pick out the cheapest one, and leave. Hubby being the good salesman that he is was trying to sell me a Danze faucet for over $100.00. I told him that we don’t have that kind of money right now, and maybe next time. He just went on about how nice it looks, and it has a pull out sprayer, and let’s not forget how you pay for the quality. I told him that I didn’t want to hear it anymore. We don’t have the money right now, and that’s it. So we ended up getting a cheap $40.00 one, and hubby told me when it breaks in a few months that I’ll wish that I had listened to him. I will say if it weren’t for the fact that right now money is tight that he would have sold me on that faucet.

Do you have a significant other that likes to try to make major purchases when the money doesn’t justify them?

In my search for a good back splash for my kitchen I had heard from a friend that I was talking to about another option. She told me how you can use glass tile, and make a mosaic looking back splash. I’ve never heard of this, but I have seen them make garden stones, and table tops. I had never heard about backsplashes. So I asked hubby what he thought about this, and of course he said that it sounded like it would make a big mess. Now I don’t know if it would, or not because I’ve never done anything like it before. What I do know is that I still don’t have a clue what to do for a backsplash.

They sent me the photo below, and I don’t know about it. Does anyone else have anything like this?

I didn’t know what I was getting myself into in wanting to paint the rooms in our house. I told hubby that they are in need of it because it’s been so long. That’s when hubby also realized how much use our ceiling fans are getting, and said that maybe we should replace them too, as some are getting old & worn out. Now this scares me because we have a lot of ceiling fans in our house. I know painting alone is going to be a big job, and now he wants to put more stuff to do on top of that. I told him that we needed to take it one step at a time so it will get done in an orderly fasion.

The one thing I hate is when you over whelm yourself with too much and nothing gets done or it takes forever. Do you have any long awaiting unfinished projects in your house?

Me and the hubby feel that it’s time to redo the kitchen. It has been over 10 years since it was originally done. I’ve grown tired of the paint color, and the cheap backsplash that we currently have. But the biggest problem we have is that we just don’t agree on everything. He hates my paint choices, and I want to put fake tile up, but he wants real tile. The one thing we both want to do is to put a stainless steel backsplash up behind the stove. The ones I have seen look really nice. I really hope we agree on the paint that I like soon even though it’s doubtful that it will be done in the near future. I’ve been waiting for almost 2 years. When he says ok just do it we don’t seem to have the money for it to be done anymore.
