This Christmas our little one had put an Ipod touch on her list. She’s been doing really good in school so we were thinking of getting one for her. I asked hubby what he thought about it. He asked me why I would go out and spend that kind of money when he could get the same thing cheaper. You see Sprint came out with the IPhone and her contract for her phone is up. He said he can get one for $100.00. This made me happy. I get to save money. What I failed to realize is not if he has anything to do with it. He doesn’t tell you that by the time you get done buying a car charger, and a good IPhone case so that it doesn’t break you only save @$30.00. I couldn’t believe it when he told me how much this case costs that he wants on the phone. So I was wondering if it was worth doing it if I am only saving $30.00. He says its a better deal than getting her the IPod Touch, but I’m still not sure. I even asked her if she could chose which one would she pick thinking this would help me. I don’t know what I was thinking by doing that because she now wants both. We asked her why she needed both. In being fair we told her to put one or the other on her list. She got upset with us and said she needed both because you cant listen to music and talk on the phone at the same time. Life is so hard when your 12 and you can’t get every thing you want.

Last night to be nice I took the little one and 3 friends roller skating. It turned out to be the longest ride of my life. The things that 11 and 12 year old kids talk about make no sense at all. One crazy thing was about eyelashes made from fake feathers, makeup, and all the way to the best eyelash growth products. One kid keep saying how long her eyelashes were even when they were not talking about that any more. I don’t think I will ever understand why at this age they are worried about stupid things like that. I remember when I was their age we talked about Barbie dolls. We didn’t care how we looked. I think I need to look into good ear plugs because I don’t what to hear what they talk about, or even listen to their music. The price I pay to be the nice parent. When you were this age what did you and your friends talk about?

When our daughter was christened we asked some people to be her godparents. I have always thought the godparents were supposed to be around, and also be very involved in the lives of the children they were godparents of. For the most part our daughter knows her godmother and godfather, but she never really sees them. I don’t even recall her getting any gifts like they have out from them to her. Some sign of their feelings would have been nice. I have seen many nice things that I never received as a child from my godparents. Things like the godson gifts, and goddaughter gifts that you see in stores that specialize in gifts of this type.

I wonder if I made a bad decision when we chose her godparents. What do you think?

I have seemed to notice that finding soccer gear for girls cheap is a very hard thing to do. I took the little one to a sports store to get soccer cleats again because her feet are growing so fast, and I go through sometimes two pairs a year. If I can accomplish it I don’t like to spend over $20.00 for them. We get there and they have lots of gear for boys cheap. There is very little for girls, and it costs twice as much as the boys. So when I found someone that worked their I asked him if the boys cleats would work because they were cheaper. Do you think he would know the answer? After all he does work at a sports store. He gave me a weird look and said theses are for boys, and that the girls shoes are over there. I was so aggravated with him and my little one that I ended up paying $45.00 for a pair of cleats. Now six months later she says that they hurt her feet. Why work at a sports store if you don’t know what your doing?

Our little one doesn’t know just how good she has it right now. Yes, i will say that we spoil her, but it’s only because she is a good kid. I had a long talk with her this past week because she is not only starting to act up, but she got a few bad grades too. So i told her the reason why we spoil her is because she was always good, and it was like a reward for that. We don’t believe in paying children for good grades. If she is going to get bad grades from not studying and acting out then we will take her stuff away. She felt that that I was just so mean and not fair so i turned in to the story teller. I told her about when i was growing up how I wanted to take guitar lessons, and do other things but my mom didn’t have the money for it. This was because she had 5 kids to take care of by herself so we only had what we needed. If she wants to see unfair then I can only show her by only giving her what she needs. She said she felt sad for me and she will do better.

Our little one sometime says the weirdest things and it makes one miss the point of it if you didn’t listen close enough. The other day when she saw an ad for e cigarette she asked us if it was a cigarette you use on the internet to help quit smoking. This is because of the “E” on the computer for launching Internet Explorer, hearing about “E Invites”, and “E-Mail”, and other things like that. She wanted to know why we don’t try it to help us quit. When she make comments like this you forget that she is telling you this because she worries about something happening to us because of the dangers of smoking. She doesn’t want to see anything bad happen to us. As much as we understand this we just don’t know how she thinks this stuff up.

For years my little one has been telling me that she wants a horse. We have always explained to her the costs that are involved in having a horse. Recently she again asked us to get her a horse. We once again explained that based on where we live we can’t have a horse, but she can have a horse that is housed somewhere else. We also then explained that the costs to have a horse are very high. Between the feed, gear, boarding, equestrian apparel, and anything else that she would need to have a very good job.

She turned to us and told us that maybe she could put the horse at her Uncle “L” house. We had to tell her that he has a field, but no fencing anymore so that would not work.

Why do children not fully understand the value of money when they don’t want to pay for something, but understand it fully when they are paying for something?

During our trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina I got to have the best laugh I have had in quite some time. Our little one, and I were walking the beach just looking for seashells, and things for her to collect. We came upon one of those things that looks similar to silver dollars. It was partially buried. I moved it with my foot expecting it to be dead.

Within seconds our little one scooped it up with her hands and was about to look at it. Before she could tell me anything I heard her scream, and drop the creature. What we didn’t know was that the creature was in fact still alive. She proceeded to tell me that it had bitten her. When we got back to the main beach house hubby asked what happened. I explained it to him. He tried to tell the little one that they just don’t bite.

She refused to believe him until she did her own internet research.

Kids are great to have. They are sometimes the comic relief.

A few weeks ago the little one asked us if 3 of her friends could have a sleep over. With the understanding if we had any problems they all would go home we said OK. Now we don’t have many sleep over’s in our house, but I do know if kids are kept busy they are good. So I went to the dollar store to find stuff for them to do. I got some cheap jewelry making kits thinking this would keep them busy and give them something fun to do. I went to the store to pick up pizza for dinner, and left hubby in charge. I came home to find little beads all over the place. I gave the man one job make sure they clean up and don’t make a mess. When I asked the kids what happen I’m told they broke open the bag of beads and they feel all over. They thought they picked them all up. I’m still finding beads weeks later. Next time I will rent a video game for them to play. It is less of a mess for me.

When I received an invite for my cousins baby shower I started looking at all kinds of things that she had on her baby gift registry. I have got to say Wow about the way things change over the years, and it hasn’t been that long, either. Everything from high chairs to cribs all seem so high tech now. Even the strollers I found online like the baby jogger city select are a lot fancier than when I had my baby. I told hubby that it makes me want another one with the way things are changing. My how times have changed since I had my little one 11 years ago. Do you wish they had some of the fancy high tech baby stuff when you had your kids?
