Ever since the 90′s when hubby started his business the only thing he has ever done for advertising is business cards. He has done very well being that most of his customers are repeat customers, and they all trust him. Recently he said that he wanted to do the Ocean County Fair again. I told him that I would have to think about it and see what could be done. Money has been tight, and we are also going away one month after the fair so the money we spend at the fair needs to be considered. I told him that maybe we should look into some local advertising, and maybe some web advertising like Triangle Direct Media does. He said that the local advertising sounded fine, but web advertising is tough only because he isn’t a store, and doesn’t leave our area.

I told him that we would look into some different avenues to help bring him in some business. He told me to watch the funds.

My hubbys Uncle L comes to visit us from time to time. When he does he sometimes bring some wisdom with him. I said sometimes. The last time he came up he was complaining that he made a very unwise decision to not invest in a few things that are now worth quite considerable money. A few of them were Gold, and Silver. I can understand because money is hard to come by with our economy. Having a solid investment is wise at this point. If you have the money, then find a way to invest it. After we were talking he mentioned that some dollar coins like the Morgan dollars are made of solid silver. Things that are made of solid items are worth far more than plated items. We told him that with our money plan we don’t have a way to invest in much right now. I wish we could invest in something that is solid money, but we invest in the “Now.” Things like family, house, vacations… Those are how we invest.

For the past many years hubby has been running his own business. For the most part he has done a spectacular job at making the money. In the past year we have seen a decline in work because of the economic situation that this nation is in. Hubby is good at everything he does. I asked him about telecomm specialist jobs because he loves working on computers, networks, and also loves to interact with clients. Telecom work isn’t just about phones. Networks, switches, and more come into play because almost everything has something to do with the internet. He told me that at this point in the game he doesn’t want to let his hopes go. He wants to see how things go over the next year before he gets too concerned.

Have you ever wondered when the right time is the right time to do something?

The other day hubby and the little one let me sleep in because they wanted to do something nice for me. I wasn’t feeling well, and this was there was of letting me rest it out. As sweet as it was of them to do this I hope they never want to do it again because all I did for that hour was lay there and think of things like how we don’t have any kind of term life insurance policy, and how will I take care of the little one and pay bills if anything ever happened to hubby. Then when that made me sad enough I thought about us and how we will pay the bills when he cant work. After being so sad and worrying about us I tried thinking of our little one. That quickly went to how are we going to help her with paying for college. That’s when I felt it was best to just get up because too much peace and quiet is not always a good thing for me. Even though all this is still on my mind I find that they give me other things to worry about and it keeps me from thinking about it until I have to.

Over the past few years we have been trying to figure out different ways to cut some costs during the summer. We got a pool in a few years back, and that has been one way of staying cool. We are now trying to think up some ways of not turning on the central air system in our house. The electric company has been pretty vicious with their rates. We have a full basement in our house, and we have come up with the idea of staying downstairs on really hot nights. The basement is very cool in the summer. This is probably because there aren’t many windows. What we do know is that the air will probably get hot just by using it a lot, but I was thinking about if a humidifier might help the situation. This would also be good for us with any allergies that we do have. What is your thoughts on this?

After 15 years of owning his own business hubby told me that he would like to put his company’s phone number in the phone book if we had the money. So I asked him why he waited so long to do this. I wouldn’t have know why not until he told me that you have to pay for this. I always thought that they had a free directory submission policy unless you had an ad to go with your listing. So I guess the fact that I told him to find out how much before we decided so I know if we can afford it. Pricing had a lot to do with him not getting back to me about this. Who knows maybe in a another 15 years we’ll be able to list his business.

Since my hubby’s business is slow, and money is a little tight right now we’ve been talking about me going to work. It has been quite a few years, but I think it could be a good thing. So I’ve been talking to some people that I know that have healthcare jobs to see if the pay is worth the job. You think it would be worth it, but all I can say is wow they told me it doesn’t pay a lot, but I hear that you do a lot of work. It’s not all that bad in my book as you do get good health care benefits, and it does pay more than most jobs. I just don’t know if I could handle it because you have to be a big people person for a job like this, and you have to put up with a lot. And it wouldn’t be right away, as I would have to get my G.E.D first, then go to medical assistant school, or something like that, so I’m still thinking about if I want to do this or not.

Back sometime in June we got a letter from hubby’s business insurance saying that they would be dropping him. This comes after 15 years, and they couldn’t even give a good reason as to why they were doing this. As mad as I was our problems didn’t stop there. The next month our car insurance company “Allstate” sent us a letter telling us that they will not be renewing our insurance because we didn’t fill out a yearly survey for them. By the way we never got one. I told hubby since I’m looking for all theses insurance quotes maybe I should also get some life insurance quotes online. Now I thought if I found a company that we could get all three from it, and it would be cheaper on us. Hubby says why bother? If we do something like that they will just find a reason to drop us on all three at the same time. I believe that the letter would read something like this… Because your business is slow it puts you in a bad state of mind, and makes you a hazard on the road to you, and others. With this in mind we will not be renewing your policy at this time. This is all because like we were told when we called to try and keep our insurance for the car, and business, they don’t have to renew if they don’t want to. I guess my money wasn’t green enough for them.

I’ve only lived in N.J. so let me start by saying that I don’t know how things are in other states, but in this state when it come to getting good health insurance quotes I think it’s harder than pulling teeth. Now I understand that different people have different needs, and not all insurances cover these needs. With all of the different kinds of coverage packages out there finding an affordable health insurance is not easy. If you go too cheap they don’t cover everything, and some even make you pay first, and wait to be reimbursed for your money, and most even have co-pays for each doctor’s visit. I also feel some doctors take advantage of this by making you visit them 3 or more times a month giving them more money that you don’t have. This makes it even less cheaper, and this also makes it hard for people both young, and old to get good health insurance when they don’t have a lot of money. As far as the state helping you out what you have to realize is that you need to make very little money in order to get health insurance, so little that I don’t know how they expect you to live. With the economy most of the U.S. is facing I can’t imagine most people being able to afford health insurance at all. What do you think?

The other day we got a letter from the company that handles my hubby’s business insurance. It was telling us that they were dropping some of the things that they covered on his policy when it expires. This made me mad, and I felt that maybe we should find a better insurance company. He told me that it’s no big deal, and it seems as though they’ve been doing this type of thing every year. It seems like the only thing they don’t drop is the rate. I wish he would look for a plan through someone else because at this rate if they keep dropping things then he won’t be covered at all, and it’s like throwing money away. I don’t have money to just throw away. I guess I should have paid closer attention to this kind of stuff a little more.

I have such a hard time finding anything on the internet because using the internet is still new to me. I’ve been trying to use it to find a cheaper car insurance like hubby said I should do because it’s a lot easier than calling around local agents. When I do a search for insurance I get all kinds of insurances that I/we don’t need. So I told hubby that I needed help. I’m finding a lot of sites that say things like term life insurance here when I’m looking for car insurance, and other weird results. After laughing at me, and telling me that I need a lot of help his big solution to my problem was “Don’t click on that”, and “Try typing in car, or auto in front of the word insurance. Why didn’t he tell me this the first time? All he told me was I could search for insurance on the internet? It amazes me that this man can teach others how to use the internet, but with me he can’t teach me. More amazing than that is that the customers he has are very happy with him, and his services. Maybe it’s because I don’t pay him.

One thing that I have noticed is changing more, and more because of rules, and regulations that are in place is our insurance. I have noticed a few times that our auto insurance is changing, and not for the better. I told hubby if he doesn’t find out what is going on with the insurance that we will need to get some new insurance quotes, and maybe change our carrier. I am not being picky. I am very conscious of our money since he is working on his own again, and the money gets tight from time to time. We have 1 newer car, a newer truck, and a travel trailer. I just feel like I am paying through the nose for insurance.

We can’t do anything about our taxes on our house, and that is one thing I wish I could. Our town hasn’t changed a bit since I began living in it many years ago. I have talked to some of the neighborhood seniors that even tell me that the taxes are high, and nothing is changing. Getting a property tax appeal isn’t always smart because you have to pay out money for that, and if you are told there is no change, then you threw that money away.

Are you stressed with your bills knowing the economy is killing us, and it is going to take a lot more beating to get it running again?

Not too long ago Hubby and I came up with an idea to start taking our extra change, and putting it in our piggy bank. Then we would just save it to use when we went to Disney. We called it our “Mad Disney Money”, and we could spend it anyway we wanted when we were there. Most of the time we spent it on things our little one wanted, and not us. Seeing us do this for the past few years she asked me if she can get her own bank to do the same thing. Unlike us she uses her money on any toys, and souvenirs for herself, and her friends back home. Everytime we went to the bank to cash our coins in I found that she would get upset that we saved much more money then her. We never under stood why because most of the money went to her any way.

I will say this year that when it came time to cash our money in we were very surprised to see she saved more then us. This really showed us how tight money has been this past year. When a ten year old can save more money than us, then you know that something has hit the fan. I don’t know if it was her kind heart, or smart mouth that she gets from her daddy when she told me that it’s ok, and she’ll lend me the money if I don’t have enough for what I want. Even if I have to pay her back I’m just happy that at a young age she is learning how important money is, and how to save for what she wants. Do you remember how old you were when you started saving money for something you wanted?

A close friend of mine is a single mom who works long hours to support her kids. When she has some spare time to get together we talk for hours. It just amazes me that with how hard of a time she is having all she complains about is how she has dark circles under her eyes. I gave her the best advice a good friend could to get some dark circle eye cream, and take some time to live life before its over. I told her that the stress she is dealing with would be enough to make anyone have problems.

She has been having a lot of family, medical, and economic issues. I told her not to feel so bad because everyone is having major economic issues right now. She asked me why I never complain about anything. I told her that no matter what my hubby would work his hardest to achieve everything that we want, and that if there was a time that the economy hurt us real bad that we would have to deal with it. Even if I had something to complain about I don’t normally put my personal life out in the wind for everyone to know.

Hubby has gotten us through some amazing years with his business. He always comes through no matter what. Sometimes even my family doesn’t understand, but that is exactly it… THEY don’t understand.
